Synopsis:

Home is where the heart is.

After escaping the presidential palace, Carmen Escobedo is trapped on war-torn Vistaria. She shelters with a rogue resistance unit led by a medical doctor with a mountainous chip on his shoulder, and no time for Carmen’s city-soft sensibilities. Neither does he care that she’s the daughter of the assassinated President of Vistaria.

Garrett Blackburn is scarred, scruffy and indifferent to anything but the need to pay back the pain and suffering in his life in a very big way. But he pummels, trains and molds Carmen into a good fighter for the sake of the unit…or so he says.

While the Loyalists try to coax the United States into supporting them, the Insurrectos secretly extract silver from a United States-owned mine, and use it to buy themselves support. Carmen and Garrett learn about the silver and pass the news to the Loyalists and the American corporation which owns the mine. Suddenly, the outcome of the war against the Insurrectos hinges on one simple silver mine, and who controls it.

My Thoughts

When your back is up against the wall a sexy soldier is who you call.

This is a fast paced story full of danger, political intrigue, and sizzling passion. You are immediately thrown into the midst of the action in this book. I liked that there was lots of twists and turns to keep you riveted to the pages. The setting was detailed and dangerously beautiful. It was easy to see how you could lose your heart and possibly your life so easily there.

The romance was beautiful and the chemistry between Carmen and Garrett was palpable from page one. I really liked the slow burn of the romance and how we got to see them really connect and grow throughout the story.

Carmen was strong and willful heroine, I really admired her spirit. She lost her father and was thrust into an unknown and dangerous situation where she couldn't trust anyone. Carmen started out naive in the ways of warfare, but she didn't back down from anyone or anything. She didn't buckle under the pressure instead she stepped up and took steps to protect herself. I enjoyed seeing her grow from a scared and naive woman into someone who could take care of herself.

I couldn't get enough of Carmen and Garrett. These two knew how to push each others buttons, but they also had each others back through thick or thin. Their relationship was a bit of a love/hate one at the beginning, but it was easy to see the love these two had for each other.

There is just something about an alpha male that you can't resist and Garrett was most definitely an alpha male.

Garrett was a stubborn take no prisoners kind of guy. The kind of guy that a stubborn woman like Carmen needed. I thoroughly enjoyed going on this journey with Carmen and Garrett and see them grow as people and fall for each other in the process.

Join Carmen and Garrett as they take the world by storm and fall victim to that crazy little thing called love.
